From The Experimental Series Avant Garde Volume 10 (So When's the Revolution?) A Propos De Nice Jean Vigo's fascinating study of contrasts. Using the city of Nice as a microcosm, he contrasts its idlers sprawled on the sunny beaches and the poor struggling to survive in the slums. Exceptional photography and editing highlight this subversive little film! 1929 25 minutes New York Film Annex Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7kD_FIA2to Uploader: Library VHS Rips

We had been having an intense family discussion, and the mood in the house was a little oppressive. Suddenly the sense that a mighty storm was breaking outside replaced the heavy mood with one of excitement. Forgetting all about whatever we had been discussing, we ran to the door and stood in the doorway watching fork lightning driving down through the dark sky, and listening to thunder rumble overhead. It was incredibly loud and bright, and I had the sense that the whole sky was cracking. When...

Two recordings of the storm, one outside in the garden circa 16.00 - still a bit of daylight. And the second, around 17.00 hrs, with thunder. That was recorded at a window, from inside the house.

These images show changes in the clouds around Neptune's Great Dark Spot (GDS) over a four and one-half-day period. From top to bottom the images show successive rotations of the planet an interval of about 18 hours. The GDS is at a mean latitude of 20 degrees south, and covers about 30 degrees of longitude. The violet filter of the Voyager narrow angle camera was used to produce these images at distances ranging from 17 million kilometers (10.5 million miles) at the top, to 10 million...

This clear filter image was acquired by Voyager 2 on August 14, 1989, at a range of 14.8 million kilometers (9.2 million miles). The image shows a dark feature extending westward (left) and northward (up) toward the equator from the Great Dark Spot (GDS). This puzzling phenomenon developed over a relatively short period (three rotations or about 54 hours), and continues to evolve with time. Further study may reveal whether this protrusion represents an actual flow of dark cloud material from...

Here, director Clifford B. West looks at the art of casting Renaissance bronzes as a historian, appreciator, critic, and craftsman. This film traces bronze from its discovery in Mesopotamia in the third millenium BCE to the 20th century. The film begins with historian Bruno Bearzi showing Donatello's modifications, and his 14 separate castings, on the colossal bronze of St. Louis of Toulouse at the Museo dell'Opera. Then, a visit to the Hades-like Fonderia Ferdinando Marinelli, where four...

Shortly after his marriage in 1943 (West was his best man), Bertoia moved to California at the behest of his friend Charles Eames, and collaborated on the design of the famous Eames Chair, produced by Knoll Associates. When Mr. Deupree approached Treetrunk Records and shared his excellent drone piece "Cathedral", Treetrunk was, of course, interested in its release. Ambient and drone fans, and others besides, give it a listen-- it is a very worthwhile way to spend 20 minutes. "Cathedral was composed over a two-year period almost entirely from piano samples, plus a very few of night-time crickets recorded in our wildflower garden in central Ohio, where Carol Deupree took the cover photo."--...

Whatever echoes fibrillate in the undulations of our neuronal fields? Memory faces up to itself in this one question: how did memory bring us here? Memory, the forgotten one - under the sway of the scythe of bliss memory flexes over in synaptic delusion to the experience of senselessness that only audition can bestow. It comes as the gift of angels to listen to this world while immersed in such oblivion. Without recall of what vistas we have passed, we are awakened in a dream so far off...

T.a.f. series; an exploration of harmonies thru a series of generative algorithms derived from traditional chinese/japanese music. A small collection of music performed and created 100% with the puredata language. T.a.f. is an exquisite experiment; six subtle, slowly evolving lo-fi ambient pieces. The best of u.k. ambient tradition (Eno, Aphex) meets Basinski. Mark Allan is 50% of Beatwife.
